Luke Gentilcore Jr., 78 of Auburn passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the V.A. Medical Center in Syracuse.

  He was a lifelong resident of Auburn, the son of the late Vita (Troiani) and Luke Gentilcore Sr. Luke graduated from Mt. Carmel High School, Class of 1963, received his bachelor's degree from Le Moyne College and his nursing degree from Auburn Community College. Luke served our country honorably in the Army, during the Vietnam War. Luke previously worked as a registered nurse for Auburn Memorial Hospital and retired from the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, Fl.  He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church and active member, as an usher and volunteered his time in several areas of the church's activities and functions.  Luke enjoyed commiserating with his fellow friends at various local eateries and establishments.  Luke will forever be remembered for his quick humor, charming smile and very generous and giving heart. 

  He is survived by his two adopted sons, Chris and Jason Gentilcore , a brother David and his wife 'Ronnie' Gentilcore , a sister Carol and her husband Daniel Schlie, two nieces, Lauren Schlie, Melissa Gentilcore , two nephews David Gentilcore Jr., Michael Gentilcore as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.

  A calling hour will be held this Thursday from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm in the Pettigrass Funeral Home. Services will immediately follow at 12:00 pm in the funeral home, 196 Genesee St.,Auburn. Burial is in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. Mary's Church Renovation Fund.
