FAIRPORT | Josephine Romano Salotto, 97, of Fairport, and formerly of Auburn and Penn Yan, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, May 14, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Auburn, the daughter of the late Philip and Rosalie Parlegreco Romano. Josephine left a legacy of love in which she cherished and adored each and every one of her family members and certainly well beyond.
Josephine was entirely devoted to her family. Her outstanding cooking skills were well honed as a stay-home mom who also operated what by today’s standards would be a day-care center for a few other lucky children in addition to her own. She was a prolific writer of poetry, often putting her and her family’s life experiences to illustrated verse. She delved deeply into her family history and passionately tried keeping connected to family near and far. She had a close relationship with Jesus Christ, was active in Cursillo, prison ministry, and living her faith. She took numerous overseas trips with her husband including pilgrimages to the Holy Land and other Holy sites throughout Europe.
Jo is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Michael Salotto, of Fairport; four children, Mary Lynn (Joe Tandle), Michael (Lisa Shay), Daniel (Cindy Mandravelis), and Martin Alan; 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Jo was predeceased by her grandson, Eric, and all of her Romano siblings, Carmella Caruana, Michael, Paul, Sam, Pauline Sciortino, Jim, John, and Jennie Asaro.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family from 4 to 6 p.m. this Sunday for calling hours in the chapel at the Fairport Baptist Homes in Fairport.
On Monday, May 20, calling hours from 9:30 to 11 a.m. will precede Josephine’s funeral Mass with the Rev. Robert Schrader as celebrant in the Church of the Assumption, 20 East Ave., Fairport, NY. Graveside ceremony will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Auburn.
Contributions may be made in Josephine’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
