AUBURN — Mildred “Millie” K. Guzalak, 66, of Auburn passed away peacefully Tuesday evening July 3, 2018 at Highland Hospital in Rochester after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Auburn. The daughter of the late Joseph and Doris Mettlach Miller and has been a life resident. “Millie” or “Millie the Mail Lady” as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was a retired mail carrier for the Auburn Post Office, after more than 25 years of service. She loved her occupation, and especially enjoyed the many friends she made over the years on her mail routes. She was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church. Millie was a practical-minded, caring, and generous person who always put others first. Her most recent proud and cherished times were spent with her first grandson. Millie was also a caregiver to her grand dogs Roxy, Paris, and Daisy. Millie’s generous heart touched all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, David Guzalak of Auburn, daughter Jackie Guzalak Douglas (Rob Douglas) of Martha’s Vineyard, son Timothy Guzalak (Nikki) of Auburn, grandson Robert Douglas III, and sisters Charla Conley and Margaret Sheppard, both of Auburn.
There will be no calling hours. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family this Saturday, July 7th at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetary. A pot luck celebration will be held at the lake on the island side at 5pm. In the spirit of Millie, bring something to share. Millie’s family welcomes visitors to swing by and say hi at their home Sunday 11 a.m to 7 p.m. Contributions may be made in Millie’s memory to the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry, 85 E. Genesee St., Auburn, NY or to the American Cancer Society.
