Robert A. Mentillo, 76 of Logan Lofts, Auburn passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, Sept. 15, 2018 at his home.
He was born in Auburn, the son of the late Louis and Rose Spampinato Mentillo. He graduated from East High School, class of 1960, attended Auburn Community College and would later graduate from Central Michigan University with a degree in business administration. Bob retired after more than 30 years as a district sales manager for Kraft Foods where he was a well respected leader and motivator.
Along with his many responsibilities none was more important to Bob then mentoring his people for their own success and career advancement. His career with Kraft brought him many different locations. After retiring from Kraft, he returned home to Auburn where he continued to work in the grocery industry. In 2015, he found his new passion working with special needs children for the Auburn school district. He not only made a difference in their lives but they made a difference in his. Students and staff fondly referred to him as "Mr. M" or "Uncle 'Bob." He was spiritual and a very devout Catholic. Bob was an avid golfer and reader and number one fan of Syracuse University Basketball. He was often seen bleeding "orange" when they lost a game. He also enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, but this all pales in comparison to the love he had for his family and friends. Bob will always be remembered for his smile, charismatic personality, quick wit and heart of gold.
He is survived by his loving wife of more then 53 years, Marie Salvatore Mentillo of Auburn; daughter Melissa May (Eric) of MA; sons, Chris Mentillo (Gloria) of MA; Jeremy Mentillo (Tina) of Poughkeepsie; brother Richard Mentillo of Auburn, three grandchildren, Lindsay May and her fiance Andrew Navickas; Jeremy Mentillo II and Katarina Mentillo; brother-in-laws Anthony Salvatore (Terrie), Frank Salvatore (Florence); sister-in-laws Nancy DiLallo and Genny Salvatore; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family this Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church for Robert's mass with the Rev. Louis Vasile as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn.
