SYRACUSE | Susan C. (Soccio) Jones, 70, of Syracuse, formerly of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly June 2, 2019, in Ogden, Utah, while visiting her daughter.
Born in Auburn on July 30, 1948, she was the daughter of the late John and Valerie (Haerinck) Soccio, and resided most of her adult life in the Syracuse area. Susan was a Central High School graduate, class of 1966 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, and business and computers at Brockport College. She taught business at the high school level in the Syracuse School District and later was a head teacher for the Head Start Program of Onondaga County. She loved to sew and was an avid quilter. She was a member of the Twilight Stitchers of Brewerton (past president), the Quilters Consortium of New York State (membership chair), Delta Kappa Gamma-Alpha Iota chapter (necrology chair and on the personal growth and service committee), the Lyncourt Quilt Guild, and the Renegade Red Hot Divas. She was also a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Liverpool, N.Y., and a former volunteer at the North Area YMCA.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, John, of Syracuse; three children, Cynthia Jones (Vincent Catanzaro), of Ogden, Utah, Jeffrey Jones, of Buffalo, N.Y., and Michael Jones, of Syracuse, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Aurélia Catanzaro; brothers-in-law, Dennis Quinn, Robert Jones, and Bruce (Bonnie) Jones; uncle, Victor “Sonny” Haerinck; close friend and special cousin, Pamela Clark; as well as other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Susan was predeceased by her sister, Sheri (Soccio) Quinn.
A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. this Tuesday, June 18, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m., all in St. Mary’s Church, Clark Street, Auburn.
