AURELIUS | Wynne M. Crosby, 89, of Aurelius, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Jan. 28, 2019, at The Commons on St. Anthony.
Wynne was born in Auburn in 1929. He graduated Auburn High School in 1947. He served in the NYS Armory on State Street and in 1948 he worked for the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island, Michigan. He joined the Army in 1948 and served until 1949. He attended Alma College in Michigan and earned a degree from Cayuga Community College. Wynne was employed at NYSEG from 1952-1991 alongside his beloved brother, David (Barbara) Crosby.
In 1960 he married wife, Harriet and built his own home in Cayuga, N.Y. A jack-of-all-trades, Wynne repaired TV’s, worked as a magician, collected insulators; as well as antiques. He enjoyed running, biking, snowmobiling, fishing, and playing ice hockey. He ran in Auburn’s first Great Winter Race and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels from 1991-2005. He was the kind of guy who couldn’t pass a stranded motorist without stopping and offering some help. Most of all, he loved to tell a good joke.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Harriet; daughter, Anne (Matthew) Cook; grandchildren, Halle, Sam, and Hannah Cook.
He was predeceased by parents, Mable and John (Win) Crosby; his sons from a previous marriage, John (Jack) and Doug Crosby, and brother, David Crosby.
As were Wynne’s wishes, there are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held August 2, 2019 at 4:00 pm in Owasco Rural Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
Anyone wishing to make donations in Wynne’s memory may contribute to Meals on Wheels, 8 Hulbert St., Auburn, NY 13021
