Aletha Ann (Lee) Curtis Brooks Hickey passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025.
Born in Fleming NY, on June 16, 1935, the family then moved to the Village of Cayuga where Lee spent her childhood and early adult life. She graduated from Union Springs Central High School in 1953.
In the 1950’s Lee worked as a car hop waitress at Green Shutters Restaurant and at General Electric, both in Auburn, NY. She later drove buses for the Auburn School District as well as for the city of Auburn. She worked as an inspector for Carrier Corporation in Syracuse, NY. Lee worked at various other jobs in her career, all while raising seven children. Lee had a fun sense of humor and was adept at making people laugh. Family was most important to her. She taught her children to “reach for the brass ring” in life. She also had a love for animals.
She is survived by children Memory Brooks Hopkins (Paul), Melody Brooks, Marta Brooks, Maureen Brooks (Richard Wentz), Marcia Brooks Pooler (Gregg), Mitchell Hickey (Julie) and Mathew Hickey (Erica), nephew Warren Curtis whom she regarded as a son, 11 Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by husbands Edward F. Brooks and David E. Hickey as well as her parents Floyd and Mertie (Bayless)Curtis and brothers Russell, Warren and Allen Curtis.
Family and friends of Aletha Ann Hickey are invited to attend a Celebration of Life event to share memories, stories and laughter. Please join Lee's family on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 2 PM at the Auburn Public Theater, 8 Exchange St., Auburn, NY. Refreshments will be served.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in the name of Aletha Ann Hickey to Seventh Heaven Rescue Syracuse, NY or any animal shelter of choice.
