Anthony J. LoBisco Jr.

Anthony J. LoBisco Jr., 82 of Auburn passed away peacefully, May 3, 2024, at Upstate Community General Hospital in Syracuse with family by his side.

  He was a lifelong resident of Auburn, the son of the late Anthony Sr. and Katherine (Martellaro) LoBisco. Tony graduated from West High School, Class of 1959 and received his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Greensboro in N.C.

  Prior to his retirement, Tony, started his career with Cayuga County Probation Department in 1966 and retired from NYS Division of Parole after more than 34 years of service. Serving along with him was his partner and friend Rick Hotaling.  During his career, Tony received the Commissioner Award and a commendation from the Auburn Police Department for personally apprehending a fugitive to surrender who was wanted for a recently committed murder.

  Tony was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight of Auburn Council No. 207 from 1985 to until 1987. Tony was a standout athlete, especially in baseball and softball.  At the age of 19, Tony was signed with the Chicago Cubs baseball team along with his two best friends, Ed "Gus" Bell and Ron Netti.  He was inducted into the Auburn Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame, Class of 2022.  He was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan and former board member at the Neighborhood House and a past member of Highland Golf Course.  Tony was a Syracuse University football and basketball fan and attended the Big East tournament every year.  He will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to get to know this special man.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce (Amico) LoBisco of Auburn, two daughters, Sandra (David) Pickens of Ballston Lake, NY, Joanna LoBisco-Mancuso of Auburn, five grandchildren, Lanie, Tessa and Jillian Pickens, Anthony and Francesca Mancuso, two siblings, sister, Camille Fornesi, brother, Michael LoBisco, a sister-in-law Joanne (Samuel) Scozzari as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
  In addition to his parents, Tony was also predeceased by his goddaughter and niece Jacqueline Fornesi-Nownes and very close friends Ronald P. Netti and Paul J. Viggiano.

  Friends are invited to join the family Saturday, May 25th at 11:00 am in Sacred Heart Church, for Anthony's Mass of Christian burial.

  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tony’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Matthew House in Auburn.
  A special thank you to the staff on the third floor, ICU unit at SUNY Upstate Community General Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion that was shown to Tony during his stay.
