Bernard A. Farrelly, age 74, of Auburn, NY, passed away Wednesday evening, December 25, 2024. He was born January 13, 1950 , a son of the late Joe and Jane Farrelly.
Bernie was preceded in death by his first grandchild, Noah Farrelly, his brothers Joe, Paul, Tom, Billy and Richard and his sisters Shirley Halcomb, Jeanne Berry and Patty McNabb.
Bernie is survived by his wife Sharon, his son Jim (Beth), his daughter Jackie (Doc), his grandchildren, Oliver, Alec, Christina, Phoebe, Ella, Aidan and Rylee, four brothers, David, Ed, Ron and Timmy, three sisters, Debbie Brew, Kathy Smith and Suzy Treat, his sister in law, Kathy Pinckney and brother in law Paul Pinckney (Debbie) and several nieces and nephews
If you were lucky enough to know Bernie, you also knew you had a friend for life. He always greeted you with a smile and made you feel he was truly happy to see you. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and carried a personal responsibility in his work. You were a lucky person if your heat went out on a cold winter night and you knew Bernie. He would show up at your house any time of the day, in any weather, to make sure you and your family did not go without. If you were a customer, you always got a fair price and if he thought you might struggle paying your bill, that bill would often just disappear. His generosity did not end with his work. During the holidays, Bernie often paid the bill for a single mother he thought may be struggling, buying toys, food and everything else in her cart to help make a random family’s Holidays better.
When it came to his family, the level of generosity only increased. His children and grandchildren experienced full lives thanks to Bernie. Every Christmas and birthday was filled with gifts but even more so, they were filled with laughs, jokes and non-stop ball busting. Board games? Bernie was always in. Family poker games? Count Bernie in. Backyard kickball? Even in his 70s, Bernie was there. And not just there, he always let you know he was going to win and you were one of the lucky ones if you were on his team. He was the one talking the most and the first one to point out your team’s shortcomings. All with a smile. A smile that will forever be missed.
