We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Camille Doreen Lacey, 71, of Aurora, New York, on February 8, 2024.
She was born in Auburn in 1952 to George and Camille Donovan. She is survived by Sean Lacey; her siblings Mary Nicoline, George (Cathy) Donovan, Michael Donovan, and Deborah Kovolchuk; her children Kristin (Martin) Lacey, Timothy (Heidi) Lacey, Meghan (Mike) Pedro and Melissa (Aaron) Dingy; and her grandchildren Reilly Dingy, Ryan Pedro, Áine Egan, Brayden Dingy, Connor Lacey, Sean Pedro, Kira and Kendall Lacey, Hendrix Lacey, Anthony, Juan, and Isabella Mejia and Mercie Lacey.
Doreen was a graduate of Mount Carmel and Powelson Business Institute. She worked at Cayuga County Savings Bank before starting her family. She loved and cared for children her entire life. She began babysitting in her teens for family friends and neighbors and eventually ran an in-home daycare. She also cared for her nieces and nephew over summer holidays and was the go-to person in the area for French braids.
Doreen was also an amazing cook and baker; everyone loved her sauce and meatballs, Christmas cookies, cakes, and pies. She always had something delicious in the fridge or a tasty dessert on the counter.
Doreen thoroughly enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events from softball, lacrosse, football, baseball, and Irish step dancing competitions, she was always the biggest and often the loudest fan in the crowd. She will be dearly missed, and her memory cherished.
A calling for family and friends will be held this Saturday, February 17th from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm in the Pettigrass Funeral Home. A memorial service, conducted by Father Louis Vasile will follow with the immediate family and close relatives at 1:00 pm also in the funeral home, 196 Genesee St.,Auburn. Burial is in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Doreen's memory to the Golisano Children’s Hospital.
