David Fogarty Obituary

David J. Fogarty, 82 of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly May, 24, 2024 at his home.

  He was born in Auburn, the son of the late John and Mary (Jupin) Fogarty and had resided in Auburn for most of his life. Dave graduated from West High School, Auburn Community College and Michigan State University, earning BS and MS degrees in Romance Languages and Educational Psychology. Dave was a former guidance counselor and also taught French and Spanish in both CNY and Detroit . Retiring, he assumed a genealogical position in Cayuga County for research in archival work. He was proud to have written a novel, titled 'Out of the Shadows', depicting critical issues facing the nascent New York colony and its diverse multicultural inhabitants during the mid 18th-century. He thoroughly enjoyed studying and learning more about American History.

  Some of Dave's hobbies included collecting coins, stamps, playing tennis and frequently visiting the YMCA. He also participated in the Empire State Games, earning awards in the javelin throw several times.

  He is survived by his sister, Mary (William) Casey, niece Elizabeth (Toni) Pacioles, two nephews, Patrick (Leah) Casey and Christopher (Christina) Casey as well as several great-nieces and great nephews.

  A calling hour for family and friends will be held Thursday, June 6th from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with a service to immediately follow at 11:00 am, all inside of Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St.,Auburn.
