Deborah Franczek Obituary

Deborah Ann Manzone Franczek, 62, of Auburn, NY, passed away peacefully at the Sitrin Neuro Unit in New Hartford, New York, on January 11, 2026, after a courageous 14-year battle with Huntington’s disease. Born on July 9, 1963, Debbie, as she was affectionately known, was a vibrant spirit whose presence was felt deeply by all who knew her. A proud graduate of Auburn High School in 1981, Debbie was a lifelong resident of Auburn, where she cultivated lasting relationships and community ties throughout her life.

Debbie and her family were lifelong attendees of Holy Family Church, instilling in her a sense of community and faith that was ever-present in her life. Known for her fiery personality, sharp wit, and unfiltered honesty, Debbie brought laughter into every room, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. She was truly everyone’s cheerleader, spending years of her youth as a cheerleader herself and later becoming a cheer coach—a job and sport she loved dearly. Her passion for cheering was a defining aspect of her life and contributed to the encouragement she tirelessly offered to others.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Debbie proudly supported her beloved New York Giants and Yankees, as well as the University of Michigan football team. When she could, she loved watching her grandchildren, Giovanni (16) and Milania (Millie, 12), play hockey, soccer, and lacrosse—bringing her immense joy until health reasons made attending difficult.

Debbie adored beach vacations and traveling with her family, always eager to soak up the sun and showcase her fabulous tan. However, Huntington’s disease stripped much away from her, with family time being her biggest loss. She harbored deep-seated frustration about how the disease took so much from her and from other family members who had previously succumbed to this terrible illness.

Debbie dedicated over three decades of her life to Auburn Community Hospital, where she was a beloved colleague until her retirement in 2015 due to health challenges. Throughout her life, she formed several lifelong friendships.

Debbie is survived by her son, Matthew Manzone; his wife, Danielle; grandchildren, Giovanni and Milania; and her daughter, Chelsea Franczek. She is also remembered by several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her deeply. She was predeceased by her mother, Dolores Manzone (Tortorello); her father, John Manzone; and her sister, Maria Colvin.

In honoring her memory, Debbie would encourage all to celebrate life daily and express love and gratitude to those who matter most. "Every day is not just another day; it's one less day we have."

The family is profoundly grateful for the medical staff at Sitrin Neuro Unit. Their dedication to caring for individuals suffering from Huntington’s disease and ALS is truly God's work. A heartfelt thank you is extended to all those who cared for Debbie in her final years; the family cannot thank you enough for your compassion and support.
