With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Deidra Jeanne Edmunds of Auburn NY.
Deidra passed away at the age of 86 on June 23, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Deidra was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience.
She was born in Auburn NY, to the late Helen and John (Jaworski) Mathews. Deidra attended Auburn Central High and Union Springs Schools. On November 5, 1957, she married the love of her life, Fredrick Edmunds. They were married for 67 years and together raised four children.
To Deidra, the details mattered. She was always put together - her hair neatly styled, her nails polished, and her outfits thoughtfully accessorized with jewelry. She was especially known for her signature Revlon lipstick, crystal cut coral #700.
Deidra enjoyed gardening and canning for her family and was known for her impeccable baking skills. She cherished her time in Okeechobee, Florida during the winter months and summers in Auburn, NY. She deeply loved her Florida family and the memories they made over the years. Deidra and Fred also shared a love for RV travel.
She is survived by three of her four children, Shawnette Ruzicka, James (Cathy) Edmunds, and Robert (Beth) Edmunds; five grandchildren, Charles (Drew) Stebbins-Harrison, Jonathan (Amethyst) Edmunds, Ashley (Dan) Edmunds-Alfieri, Heather (Joe) Edmunds, and James Edmunds. Deidra also loved to be visited by her three great-grandchildren, Mabel Edmunds, James Edmunds, and Caroline Alfieri.
In addition to her parents, Deidra was predeceased by her husband Fredrick Edmunds, daughter Patricia Edmunds-Stebbins, her brother Jack Mathews.
Deidra and her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Connie Oram and Shery Tanner for their dedication and compassionate care during her final year of life. The moments they shared are sacred-providing support, dignity, comfort, and quality of life.
A burial will be held at Soule Cemetery on Thursday 06/26/25. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the SPCA as Deidra loved all animals.
