Dennis V. Johnson

Dennis Johnson, age 67, passed away at Auburn Community Hospital on July 23,2021. Dennis was born in 1953 in Scio Ny to Vernon and Betty (Hilliard) Johnson. He is survived by three children, Katrina (Harold) Storrs of Cohocton, NY, Merlyn Johnson of Cameron Mills, NY, and Cassandra Johnson of Auburn, NY; ten grandchildren, Tiiffany Storrs, Sharon Johnson, Kenneth Brewer, Brock Johnson, Trent Johnson, Kali Johnson, Alexander Bahena-Johnson, Brandon Bahena-Johnson, Zachary Bahena-Johnson, and Jasmin Bahena-Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters Judy Johnson Black and Joanne (Clair) Luce; and infant daughter Meredith Harmony Johnson.

Dennis grew up in Scio, NY where he was very active in sports. He loved soccer and track, especially. After graduation, he attended college for a short time before joining the Army in 1972. He served his country for five years before returning home to raise his family. He was a jack-of-all-trades who did a little bit of everything. He retired from World Kitchen in Corning, NY in 2019, where he worked as a quality control inspector.

Dennis was happiest when surrounded by his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed helping others. He was often seen helping family, friends and neighbors. He was a very generous man, often giving things that he himself needed himself to someone that he thought needed it more. He passed this lesson down to his children, as well, often reminding them that giving is much more rewarding than receiving.

At Dennis’s request, there will be no funeral. Instead, there will be a celebration of life held at Letchworth State Park at the Tea Table Overlook shelter on August 14, beginning at 11am. Anyone who knew him is welcome to attend.
