Gregory Sherman Obituary

Gregory A. Sherman, 76 of Port Byron passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 8,2025 in Auburn Community Hospital.
  He was born in Auburn the son of the late Arthur and Marjorie (Morrissey) Sherman. He served our country faithfully and honorably in the Navy during the Vietnam War, aboard the U.S.S. John R. Pierce and the U.S.S. Hyman. Greg retired after 20 years of service as a police officer for the Johnstown Police Department. Greg also previously worked for Swift Transportation as a truck driver for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. Greg also loved classic cars and was a member of the Cayuga County Cruisers. He liked playing poker with the guys, was an avid Minnesota Vikings football fan, but his favorite passion and love was his family. He cherished all the special times with them, especially family picnics but his pride and joy was his beloved grandchildren, who were his ‘everything’! He will be greatly missed. 
  He is survived by his loving wife, Diana with whom celebrated their 31st anniversary on the date of his  passing , children Greg (Lori) Sherman, Jody Catalone  (Mike Lowe) , Jennifer (Austin)  Holbrook, Brian (Rachelle) Bushnell, Bridget Reilly, Hillary Teller, grandchildren, Samantha (Travis) Miller, Laura Sherman, Vincent and  Kaitlyn Catalone, Dakota and Tehya Holbrook, Rylie and Brooks Bushnell, Hailey and Conner Williams, Hannah and Jacob Reilly, great grandchildren, Wyatt, Jason, Kendra, Ava, Juliet and Charlotte , four siblings Darlene Treat, Sheila Ellinwood, Jeffrey Sherman, Lawrence Sherman, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers-in-law Gary Ellinwood and Larry Treat.
  A celebration of Greg‘s life will be held August 2nd from 12 to 4at the Knights of Columbus ,47 Market St. Auburn NY 13021.
