John Richard Prego Obituary

John Richard Prego, age 88, of York, peacefully passed away at home on May 23, 2025. He was the loving husband of the late Phyllis A. (Marsden) Prego who passed away on February 17, 2009; together they shared 52 years of marriage.

John was born in Owasco, NY on June 24, 1936, and was the son of the late John and Katherine (Sierzenga) Prego. He worked for Osram Sylvania in York, PA for 36 years prior to his retirement and was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in York. John also enjoyed gardening and yardwork and cherished his dogs, Zoe and Dink.

John is survived by his sons Mark Prego and John Prego and wife Rosemary; his grandchildren Alexis and husband Frodo Fontana, Alex, Nic, Joe and wife Miranda, and Johnny and wife Hannah; his step-grandchildren Markie and Kristina; and his great-granddaughter Ella. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jean Prego; his niece Michelle; and her husband Steve. John was preceded in death by his brother Jerome Prego.

Relatives and friends on are invited to attend a viewing in celebration of John’s life on Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of Spring Grove, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, PA 17362. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn, NY 13021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 10:00AM at St. Hyacinths Catholic Church, 61 Pulaski St., Auburn, NY 13021. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest next to his wife at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Fleming, NY.
