John M. Scala, 41 of Weedsport passed away after a long illness, August 8,2024.
He was born in Auburn, the son of Kathleen (Nellenback) and Michael Scala. John graduated from Auburn High School in2001 and received his associates degree from SUNY Morrisville. He worked for many years as a counselor at Elmcrest Children’s Center in Syracuse. John enjoyed life to its fullest and especially liked watching sports. He loved following football, the New York Giants being his favorite team and was an avid Fantasy Football player. John also enjoyed playing cards and will be remembered as one of the nicest, sweetest and gentle souls, who was loved by everyone. He wasn’t always dealt the best deck in life or poker, but he never complained.
He is survived by his loving parents, Kathleen Nellenback Joseph and Michael Scala, adoring siblings, Megan (Robert) Reeves, Joseph Adams, Kristen Scala, and Eva Joseph, a very special niece Millie Reeves, maternal grandparents, Michael and Gail Nellenback, great-grandmother Gerry Simonsen, godchild Morgan Bonner, stepparents Timothy Joseph and Barb Scala, as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and two best friends, Mike Bonner and Dan Secrist.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Dominic and Jean Scala and beloved cousin Jimmy Scala.
Calling hours are this Friday, August 16th from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm, with services to immediately follow at 5:00 pm, all inside of Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in John’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.
