VENICE | Joseph L. Sherboneau, 94, of Venice, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 25, 2019, at his home.
He was born in Weedsport, the son of the late Frederick and Genevieve Sturge Sherboneau and had been an area life resident. Joe was a World War II Army Staff Sergeant veteran, having served our country honorably. He retired in 1987, after more than 30 years of service for New Process Gear in Syracuse. Joe was an avid pipe and cigar connoisseur. He also enjoyed the outdoors and was especially fond of many different types of birds. He cherished the times spent with his family and will be sadly missed by all of them.
He is survived by his loving family: four children, sons, Gary (Tracy) Sherboneau, of Auburn, Michael (Shelley) Sherboneau, of South Carolina, and David (Deborah) Sherboneau, of Venice; a daughter, Diana (Scott) Hamilton, of Auburn; 11 grandchildren; eight ½ great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dolly Sherboneau; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved feline companion, Mitty.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife, Betty Jean Sherboneau; two daughters, Nancy and Gail; two brothers, and a sister.
Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. this Saturday afternoon with services to immediately follow at 3 p.m. all at Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Burial with full military honors will follow in Soule Cemetery.
