Leonard Charles Obituary

Leonard J. Charles, 89 of Auburn passed away unexpectedly October 6, 2024 at his home.

  He was a lifelong resident of Auburn, the son of the late Vincent and Beatrice (Bardreau) Charles  'Lenny' as he was affectionately known to everyone, worked at the former Columbian Rope Company ,was a greeter at Wal Mart and retired from Welch Allyn after several years of service. Lenny was an avid  hunter,  and Syracuse University sports fan.  He was an excellent bowler having been in numerous leagues over the years and was inducted into the Auburn Bowling Hall of Fame, for his achievements. Lenny also loved people and had the 'gift of gab'. It was often difficult to get out of a conversation with Lenny in under ten minutes.  He will be sadly missed.

  He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dawn (Ayers) Charles, two brothers-in-law Richard and Ken Ayers, very close friends Gordy and Pat Church and his beloved canine friend, Coopper.

   In addition to his parents, Lenny was an avid animal lover and was also predeceased by Sparky and Casey.

   A calling hour for family and friends will be held this Friday morning from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with services to immediately follow, all inside of Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St.,Auburn. Burial will follow Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Port Byron.
