Louis 'Lumpy' Newman Obituary

Louis 'Paul' "Lumpy' Newman, 75 of Auburn passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, at Auburn Community Hospital.

  He was a life resident of Auburn, the son of the late Louis and Charlotte (Kurtz) Newman. Lumpy or Paul as he was affectionally known was a longtime, skilled mason, working previously for Hayner Hoyt, Roger Granger and more recently, Jimmy Lares Masonry.   He also loved working with wood and constructed many different items, including wishing wells and several decorative holiday items.  Paul was an avid Philadelphia Eagles, Syracuse University basketball, New York Rangers, Brooklyn Dodgers/Los Angeles Dodgers, sports enthusiast. Paul also enjoyed an occasional trip to OTB or the casinos.  He was also very proud to have held for more than 60 years the fastest running mile recorded in Auburn, NY. Paul was a huge animal lover and especially loved his canine friends, Gizmo, Shadow, Luna, Furgie and his feline companions, Fluffy, and Dini.

  He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Michelle (Cass) Newman, seven children, Kimberly (Dan) Wheland, Kelly (Frank) Bright, Paul (Lisa) Newman, Amy (Todd) Foust, Shane Newman, Kristin (Al) Hughes, Cassie Newman, four that were like his children, Sonny Oliver, Kristi Charette, Melanie Blowers, Toni Harvey, 14 grandchildren, Andre, Tavarris, Nakia, Lawrence, Kalilah, Marquis, twins Ashanté and Ashanti, Tyler, Dylan, Alexandra, Hailey, Albert V, Elizabeth, 17 great-grandchildren, a sister Linda (Lance) Ward, sister-in-law Mary Kinkel, very close friend Neil Ferri as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

  In addition to his parents, Paul was also predeceased by a grandson Danté Bright, a brother Dick Kunkel, nephew Roger Granger Jr., niece Danielle Granger and his in-laws William and Dorothy (Lockhart) Cass.

  There are no services at this time. A celebration of Paul's life will be held sometime in July.
