Mahalia Matthews, 55 of Auburn passed away unexpectedly July 23,2025 at her home.
She was born in Newark, NJ the daughter of Nasir Sharieff and the late Amesta Matthews and had been an area resident for most of her adult life.
Mahalia was a woman of extraordinary warmth, strength, and grace. She found joy in the simple, meaningful things in life — a spotless home, a well-cooked meal, and time spent surrounded by loved ones. Her passion for cleaning was more than just keeping things tidy; it was an expression of care, comfort, and pride in the space she made for others.
Family was everything to her. She dedicated her life to creating a loving home where traditions thrived, laughter echoed, and everyone felt welcome. Whether hosting a holiday dinner, Sunday lunch, or a last-minute gathering, she always found a way to make people feel special. Her kitchen was the heart of the house — filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals, the sound of cheerful conversation, and the taste of everyone's favorite dishes.
She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her unmatched ability to make others feel cared for, and the way she lit up every room she entered. Her love and presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the countless memories she created and the family she so dearly cherished.
In addition to her father Nasir, she is survived by her children, Nijawwon K. Matthews, Wayne F. Matthews Jr., Murad O. Matthews, Shranda M.
