Marcella Jane Savarese

Marcella Jane Savarese, 82 of Auburn, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on December 8, 2024 in Auburn Community Hospital.

  She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Lowell ‘Barton’ and Mary (Lesiuk) McIntyre.  She grew up in Amber, graduated from Marcellus High School, and resided in Tully before moving to Auburn.  Marcella worked for Syracuse University until the birth of her first daughter, and later worked for Auburn Furniture Service, Springside Inn, Ames Department Store, and retired from Welch Allyn after many years of service. She was an avid reader and enjoyed caning chairs and refinishing wood furniture.  While the girls were growing up she enjoyed ‘real tent’ camping (we're sorry for all the extra work but those corn fritters were great!), apple and berry picking, growing a large vegetable garden, and making homemade cookies and pickles.  She also made the best apple pie and Christmas cookies.  She will be sadly missed but held closely and dearly in the hearts of those she touched. 
  She is survived by three loving daughters, Laurie Karlik, Wendy Burke, Melanie (Joe) Shernesky; four grandchildren, Hilary (Chris) Valdina, Daniel Karlik, Casey and Jayne Burke, and great-grandson Warren; twin brothers, Robert and James (Sherry) McIntyre; and stepson Anthony Savarese.

  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband Harry Bugby, and widowed by Vincent 'Sonny' Savarese.  She was also predeceased by stepson Joseph Savarese, as well as several beloved feline and canine companions.

  The family would like to thank the staff of The Home for the loving care and attention shown to our Mom in her final years.  In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the activity fund of The Home, 46 Grant Ave, Auburn, for the benefit of the friends she met there.

  Calling hours will be held this Thursday from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm with services to immediately follow at 5:00 pm in First Presbyterian Church. A graveside service will be held this Friday at 11:00 am in Sf. Joseph’s Cemetery.
