Penelope Lee Austin passed away peacefully January 13, 2023, at the age of 74, surrounded by her loving family. Penny was born in Auburn, NY, the daughter of the late Frank and Bonnie (Anderson) Davis of Fleming. She retired from Cayuga Community College where she worked for many years, however her greatest accomplishment was raising two amazing sons as a single mother. Penny’s life included many joys such as walking all over Auburn, spending time with her friends, dancing with the Witchy Women, and ushering at Merry Go Round Theatre. Her hobbies included countless crafting, baking, soap making and art. Her beautiful paintings will be remembered by family and friends for generations to come.
She is survived by her son Aaron (Stacy) of Aurora Colorado, four grandchildren: Shannon, Alyssa, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, three sisters: Gloria (Edward) Pinckney of Fleming NY, Claudia (Richard) Setter of Wrentham MA, Monica Cole of Auburn NY, nieces: Wendy (Jeff) Brinkerhoff, Missy Harkness and nephews: Justin and Nathan Setter.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Brandon and her brother Bob Davis, niece Michelle.
Penny was a survivor of AML leukemia for over fourteen years. Our admiration of her determination is only surpassed by the immense gratitude to all the friends and family that served as caregivers during that time.
Calling hours are this Tuesday, January 17th from 4 to 6 pm in the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Funeral services are Wednesday at 10:30 am, in United Methodist Church, South St., where also a reception will he held following the burial in Fort Hill Cemetery.
