Pietra (Maglia) Charella

Pietra ( Maglia) Charella, 83 of Auburn passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, Monday July 15,2024 with her loving family by her side, especially her husband, daughter Marie, granddaughter Molly and niece Agata.
 She was born in Catania, Sicily, the daughter of Angela ( Panassidi)  and Paulo Maglia. She was one of two girls and seven brothers. She spent most of her childhood in Catania, working, doing chores for her family. Together with two of her brothers, went to Germany to work and help support her family. With help of family friends, she met and married her husband, Vito in Catania , Sicily on December 18,1965.
 Pietra is predeceased by a daughter, Angela, four brothers Carmelo, Orasio, Nicolia, and Giovanni all of Sicily.
 She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Vito of Auburn, two daughters, Josephine ( Bert) Vander Werff, Marie (Chris) Treat, sister Santa of Sicily, brothers, Santo of Germany, Natalie of Sicily and Salvatore of Auburn, several grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and very special niece, Agata Regis, and special granddaughter Molly Vander Werff for their extra special care.
Calling hours are this Thursday, July 18th from from 4 to 7 pm in Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn.  Pietra’s Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Amato this Friday at 2:00 pm in St. Francis of Assisi Church. Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum.
