Raymond Stanley Wisniewski of Skaneateles, New York, lovingly known as Ray, passed away on Thursday, January 22, after a long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure.
He was born on June 10, 1943, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Stanley Wisniewski and Anna Wisniewski.
Ray was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. He married Mary “Becky” Wisniewski on June 27, 1970, and together they built a life rooted in love and family. He was the proud father of Scot Wisniewski, and a beloved father-in-law to David Schecter, who he always referred to as his second son.
In addition to Becky, Scot and David, Ray is survived by his sisters, Barbara Perry and Constance Kirclich, sister-in-law Diane Wisniewski , brother-in-law, Thomas Kirclich, all of whom still reside in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his identical twin brother, Richard Wisniewski.
Ray attended Academy High School in Erie, graduating in 1962. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966 as a Medical Corpsman. Following his military service, he continued his education at the Simmons School of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1968. Ray dedicated much of his professional life to public service, working for the New York State Department of Corrections from 1973 until his retirement in 2002.
Outside of work, Ray found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, spending time on the water, and had a deep affection for animals. For many years, he enjoyed escaping colder CNY months by spending winters in South Carolina. Ray also gave back to his community through his volunteer work with the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry, where he served for several years.
Ray will be remembered for his quiet strength, his loud and boisterous laugh that would fill a room, his steadfast service to others, and the deep love he had for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and integrity that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In accordance with Ray’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Cremation services will be provided by Pettigrass Funeral Home.
