Richard Christopher Altermann, 34, of Painted Post, NY passed away unexpectedly April 24, 2023 at his home.
He was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada and spent much of his life in the Central New York area. Rich served in the US Army and National Guard for 8 years. He did a tour in Kuwait assisting in the command center at Camp Arifjan. He was proud of his military job title of 13Fox. More recently he was employed as an IT professional for Yaw Automation assisting on projects for Corning, Inc. at Big Flats and also the new plant in Durham, NC. Rich was an accomplished artist in many types of media, but his favorite was painting miniatures for the Warhammer 40,000 series. His work was well respected in the community. He was also an avid gamer. Rich loved space exploration and followed SpaceX and NASA. He loved to spend time boating on Owasco Lake with his family. He will be sadly missed by all those fortunate enough to know this special man and his kind and loving spirit.
He is survived by his loving mother Laurie Anne Yantch and stepfather Fred Van Doren; brother Erik Altermann and longtime girlfriend Amy Patterson; maternal grandparents Nancy and David Yantch of Florida; two uncles -- David (with wife Kathy) and Christopher Yantch; several cousins (including the New Mexico crew) and beloved feline friends Ruthie and Zoey, as well as special canine friend Anya the Super Sheltie. He was predeceased by our beloved Susan Yantch; his best friend and all-encompassing "Uncle Dick" Rothery, and their feline companion Kitty Roger.
There are no services at this time, but a celebration of his life and burial will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date and time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to, Operation Freedom Paws (it pairs veterans with service dogs), the Humane Society of Yates County or a charity of one's choice.
