Richard L Mentillo 72 of Auburn and Northbrook Heights, passed away Saturday March 29, 2025, at Auburn Community Hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Auburn, the son of the late Louis and Rose Spampinato Mentillo. He graduated from Auburn High School and lived most of his life in Auburn.
Richard worked at P&R Macaroni Factory in Auburn and several retail stores in Syracuse where he resided for several years before returning to Auburn where he lived until now.
Richard loved music, especially music from the 50’s even though he was not from that era. He learned to play the accordion at an early age, and even though he attended the Mucedola Accordion school, he played mostly “by ear “He continued to play throughout his life, entertaining at many parties and events. He also loved to cook, especially German and Irish food, even though he was not of that descent. He enjoyed traveling to the Boston area to visit and spend time with his niece and nephews whom he absolutely adored Richard was very devoted to his family especially his mother who he visited daily during the last years of her life.
He is survived by his devoted sister-in-law, Marie Mentillo of Attleboro, Massachusetts, his niece Melissa May of Attleboro , Ma. Chris Mentillo.(Gloria) of Wrentham , Ma. Jeremy Mentillo (Tina) of Poughkeepsie, NY. Great niece, Lindsay May. Navickas (Andrew) Jeremy Mentillo II, Katarina Mentillo and great- great nephew Jack Navickas, many cousins and special cousins Romy Romano and Lewis Romano.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving brother Robert Mentillo and nephew Eric May .
Calling hours will be Saturday April 5, 2025, at the Pettigrass Funeral Home 196 Genesee St. Auburn from 10:30 A. M. until 12:00 P. M. with a service conducted by Rev. Louis Vasile immediately following. Burial will be at Saint Joseph' Cemetery. Contributions may be made to any C. O. P. D. Foundation or any charity of one’s choice in Richard‘s name.
