Roger Vrooman Obituary

Roger A. Vrooman, age 58, of Auburn, NY, passed away unexpectedly on March 6, 2026 at SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.
Born in Auburn to the late Grant and Frances Vrooman, Roger was a man defined by his generous spirit and his remarkable ability to "MacGyver" a solution to any problem. If something was broken, Roger found a way to fix it.

Roger dedicated his career to serving as a Security Officer, but his heart was always at home. He found great joy in life's simple pleasures: the nostalgia of an old TV shows and movies, the soul of a country song, and the quiet patience of tending to the garden.

In 2025, Roger and his beloved wife, Lonna (Hutchings) Vrooman, celebrated 30 years of steadfast marriage. Together, they built a life centered on their three sons and a shared love for the outdoors. Whether they were birdwatching, or simply "puttering around" the house or garden on a project, he was happiest when active and surrounded by those he loved.

Roger’s legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Lonna; his children, Eric (Fiancée Emilee Grillo), Lucas, and Adam. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, James and Barbara Hutchings; several cousins; dear friend, Nancy Taylor; and his cherished "furbabies," Polly and Lovee. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Karen.

In accordance with Roger’s wishes, private services will be held at the family's convenience.

"If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them. Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever" -Sarah, “The Crow”
