Sandra A. Bennett

Sandra A. Bennett, 80 of Throop passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, surrounded by her loving family.

  She was a life resident of the Auburn area and was proud to call Armand and Olga Giannone her parents. Sandy attended Saint Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from West High School, Class of 1961. She was employed for more than 30 years at Auburn Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. Upon retirement, Sandy worked for several more years at the E. John Gavras Center.  Sandy was a Planning Board member for the Town of Throop for many years. She loved collecting antiques, especially clocks of any kind. She also enjoyed an occasional trip to one of our local casino's but was most happy being with her family and especially her husband, Edward. They enjoyed being members of the Prison City Ramblers, spending time at their home, whether by the pond or by the pool, together they cherished all the special times together. She will be sadly missed.

  She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 64 years, Edward Bennett of Throop, three children, Ed (Debbie) Bennett of Owasco, Kelly Thurston of Montezuma, Todd (Kathy) Bennett of Throop, eight grandchildren, Adam (Samantha), Nathan, Cory, Alicia, Jessica (Allyn), Todd Jr.(Tony), Matthew (Mindy), Nicholas, five great-grandchildren, Roman, Camryn, Cayden, Nora, Paige, three siblings, Joseph (Bridget) Szakalski of Throop, Lynn Parsons of Scipio, Richard Szakalski of CA., several nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved canine friend, Zoey.

  Sandy was also predeceased by two sons Michael (infant) and Mark Bennett.

  Calling hours are this Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm in Pettigrass Funeral Home.

   Sandy's service will be Thursday at 10:00 am in the funeral home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
