Sharon D. (Doan) Springer, 82 of Auburn passed away peacefully after a brief illness, Wednesday, November 12,2025 at Auburn Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
She was a lifelong resident of Auburn, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Jennie (Mazola) Doan. Sharon graduated from Auburn East High School Class of 1961, received her bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Simmons College and her Master’s degree in Education from Boston University.
Community mattered to her, and she was an ardent supporter of local first; she shopped on Main Street, not online or at the mall. She was an enthusiastic advocate for the YMCA and served in many capacities, including President in the 80s and early 90s. If the YMCA was involved, she wanted to help.
Family gave her life meaning. She was a social worker by training, but a mom and grandma at heart. She mastered the art of cooking, freezing, reheating, and everything in between and could break out a five course for a dozen or so on a moment’s notice – and everything was always warm at the same time #GOAT. She drew energy in numbers and was a master practitioner of “the more the merrier”.
She is survived by her three loving sons, Eric (Pamela) Springer, Douglas (Patricia) Springer, Bradley Springer, six beloved grandchildren, Cannin, Alexandra, Skyler, Greyson, Elizabeth, Olivia, two siblings, sister Diane (Gary) Colvin, brother Douglas (Penny) Doan, several nieces, nephews, cousins, very dear friend Elizabeth Hunt as well her many beloved Burtis Point Yacht Club neighbors.
She liked a little pomp and circumstance, but somber calling hours and funerals were not her style. We’ll have a celebration of life sometime this coming summer where stories will be told, food will be eaten, and laughter will rule that day.
In lieu of flowers, please lend a hand to someone whose chips are down, and remember to whisper “so-long Sharon” as you do. She was at her very best when someone else needed a hand and we can’t think of a better tribute.
