Stephen Gauthier Obituary

Stephen M Gauthier, 69, of Auburn passed away at the Francis House in Syracuse surrounded by family following a brief battle with cancer. He was the youngest of 7 brothers of the late Norbert and Madeline Gauthier. He was a graduate of Auburn High School and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Steve worked in sales for many years. Of late, he was involved transporting people for medical treatments. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Definitely a fan of sports. Steve coached CYO basketball for several years. He pitched in Auburn's Fast Pitch Softball leagues. Biked several years in the Great Race with his brothers. Relished playing racquetball and golf. Serious fan of both the NY Yankees and NY Giants. Spent lots of time at Fair Haven State Park. The go-to spot, especially during hot weather. He and Laurie enjoyed hiking, going to country music concerts and playing gin rummy. He spoke a number of times regarding a remarkable cross-country road trip that they took from East to West Coast and back. Steve loved to take leisurely drives up the West side of Owasco Lake.

One activity that he truly cherished was when he had the opportunity to spend time with his grandkids. He loved them dearly and spoke of them frequently. Steve had the ability to make people feel completely relaxed. He was blessed to have made many enduring friendships that last to this day. Evidence of that were the numerous people who traveled to visit him at Francis House.

Steve is survived by loving, caring wife Laurie (Webster) Gauthier, his devoted daughters Jennifer (Matt) DaRin of Marcellus and Julie (Bobby) Coyle of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, grandchildren, Aniela and Wyatt DaRin, Grace and Ellie Coyle, brothers Phillip, Lawrence (MaryAnn) and Brian (Kathleen). In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by brothers Richard, Paul and Gerald.

The family would like to thank the staff of Francis House who cared for him. They were incredibly caring and compassionate. The staff treated all of his visitors so kindly.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning March 22nd, 9:00 to 11:00 at St Mary's Church with a funeral Mass to follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to either Francis House or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
