Susan G. (Gabak) Poston

Susan G. Poston of Potomac, MD, passed away unexpectedly the late evening of June 25, 2024. She was surrounded by her family as she slipped away. Although our hearts are completely shattered, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace.

Born and raised in Auburn, Susan was the youngest daughter of the late George and Stephanie Gabak. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and went on to spend two years at Cayuga Community College before earning her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Kent State University. She was a gifted elementary education teacher who helped shape the lives and touch the hearts of so many.

Above all else, Susan was the glue that held both her immediate family and extended family together. She loved her family more than anything and cherished each opportunity to spend time with each other.    

Susan is survived by her two daughters, Lauren and Abby Poston, as well as her two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Myla Eckard. She is also survived by her brother, George Gabak, and her sister, Cynthia Detoto. She leaves behind her nephew, Rick Detoto, and several cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband, Phillip Poston, and her sister, Ruth Ann Kelliher.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects this Wednesday, July 3rd at 10:00am in St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church prior to her 11:00 am mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
