William G. Long, 78 of Auburn passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, February 13, 2024, in the comfort of his home, with his family by his side.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Auburn and West High School graduate, Class of 1963. He earned his associate degree from Auburn Community College. Bill served our country honorably during the Vietnam War, while mostly stationed in Germany as a member of the US Air Force.
He previously was employed for several years by the former General Electric Company and retired from Laser Diode Array, as the Vice President of Operations. Bill had many hobbies, including gardening, woodworking, and traveling with his wife and family. Bill was a natural athlete and loved playing sports, including baseball and tennis. Above everything, Bill was a very hard working, devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Christine (Koziol) Long, three children, Mark (Ingrid) Long, Audrey (John) Slosberg, Jennifer (C.J.) Villa, four grandchildren, Paul Sofinski, Jacob Long, Arianna Long, Asher Slosberg, a brother Gerald (Joan) Long, two sisters-in-law, Kathy Rutkowski, Paula (Damilo) Merlini, a brother-in-law William Roberts, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was predeceased by his mother Stella (Fronczek) Long, a half-sister Georgia Coomber, half-brother Wilson Long, sister-in-law Frances Roberts and brother-in-law Chester Rutkowski.
Calling hours are this Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm in the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Services will immediately follow at 4:00 pm also at the funeral home, where military honors will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that any donations that are made in Bill's memory, be sent to Hospice of CNY for their excellent care and compassion that was shown to Bill during his last few months of life.
